How a claw helps with concealment.

How many of you reading this are a perfectly chiseled specimen that has no love handles or curves? If that is you, let me congratulate you on your hard work and excellent shape. Now for the rest of you, who I’m guessing is the majority of the people reading this, this article is for you.

I am a bigger guy who has a belly. I often get asked, how do you conceal your weapon so well without printing to everyone your carry position. My answer has two parts. I carry a good quality, comfortable holster from Tacrig.com, and I use an Inside the waistband (IWB) holster claw.

I usually carry in the 2 O’ clock position on the strong side. This is my favorite position due to comfort as well as it being the position that I have trained to draw from the most. The problem with carrying a gun in this position, if you are like me, is that your belly pushes the handle of the gun out and causes you to print. A while back I tried using a concealment claw and it was a game changer for me. A claw is designed to attach to your holster in such a way that when you tuck the IWB holster inside of your pants, your belt hits the claw causing the handle of the gun to be pushed back and rest flat against your body. By adding this small piece to my holster it allows me to carry in most any situation comfortably and discreetly.

Have you given up on IWB carry options? Do you find that when you wear a dress shirt, or certain t-shirts that you leave your weapon at home or change your carry position to a way that you have not trained with? Let me encourage you to consider IWB carry with a concealment claw. Don’t beat yourself up for being a bigger guy or girl, find a way that you can carry your gun in all of your life and social situations.
